New Delhi: Minister of State (MoS) for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje has announced in Parliament that India has created approximately 16.83 crore new jobs over the past six financial years, from 2017-18 to 2023-24. This period witnessed a significant 35 percent increase in total employment, rising from 47.5 crore in 2017-18 to 64.33 crore by March 2024.
The data, derived from the latest KLEMS (K: Capital, L: Labour, E: Energy, M: Materials, and S: Services) report by the Reserve Bank of India, indicates that the manufacturing sector, including both formal and informal entities, contributed to the creation of 85 lakh new jobs between 2017-18 and 2022-23.
Addressing concerns about child labour, the minister outlined the government’s comprehensive approach to tackling this issue. Measures include legislative actions, rehabilitation programs, the provision of free education, and broader socio-economic development initiatives. Additionally, the Centre has developed a model State Action Plan, detailing specific actions for state governments aimed at eradicating child labour.
These developments underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to boost employment and address critical social issues.
