Israeli Airstrike in Beirut Kills 20, Injures 66, Amid Escalating Conflict
Beirut, Nov 24: An Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in Beirut early Saturday morning, killing at least 20 people and injuring 66 others, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. The strike hit an eight-storey building in the Basta Fawka neighborhood, leveling it and causing extensive damage to nearby buildings. Civil Defense teams continue to search through the rubble for additional victims.
Israeli media reports suggested that the airstrike was aimed at a senior Hezbollah official, though Hezbollah lawmaker Amin Sherri denied any party figures were present in the building.
Later on Saturday, two paramedics were killed and four others injured when Israeli drones attacked ambulances in the southern village of Ain Baal in Tyre district. The World Health Organization reported a significant toll on healthcare workers in the region, with 226 health professionals and patients killed, and 199 others injured since the escalation began in early October.
This attack is part of a broader increase in Israeli military action along its northern border with Lebanon, following tensions with Hezbollah. The Lebanese Ministry condemned Israel’s attack on rescue teams and called for international action against violations of humanitarian law.
