Supreme Court to Hear Pleas on NEET-UG 2024 Irregularities, Cancellation Sought

New Delhi, [Current Date]: The Supreme Court is scheduled to resume hearing on Thursday regarding multiple petitions alleging irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 examination and seeking its cancellation.

According to the cause list published on the apex court’s website, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud will hear the matter on July 18. The bench, which also includes Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, had previously adjourned the hearing at the joint request of the parties, noting the submission of a status report by the CBI related to allegations of paper leaks.

In its affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Centre cited data analysis conducted by IIT-Madras, which indicated an overall increase in marks obtained by candidates, particularly in the range of 550 to 720. The Centre attributed this increase to a 25% reduction in the syllabus for the examination held on May 5 this year. It further stated that candidates achieving high scores were spread across various cities and centres, suggesting minimal likelihood of malpractice.

The Supreme Court had earlier directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to provide complete disclosure on the nature of the alleged paper leak, the locations involved, and the timeline between the occurrence of the leak and the exam date. Additionally, the Court instructed the CBI to furnish a status report detailing the progress of its investigation and the evidence collected during the probe.

The hearing on Thursday is expected to delve into these aspects as the Court considers the petitions seeking cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 examination amid allegations of irregularities.

This development underscores the ongoing judicial scrutiny and the efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in one of India’s most significant competitive examinations.

For more updates on this case, stay tuned to reliable news sources and the official statements from the Supreme Court.
