Supreme Court Deliberates NEET-UG 2024 Amid Controversy

New Delhi witnessed a pivotal hearing at the Supreme Court as Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, alongside Justices JB Pardiwla and Manoj Misra, commenced proceedings on several petitions concerning the NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam. The bench emphasized the need for concrete evidence of systemic paper leaks affecting the entire exam for any order of re-conducting it, underscoring the social implications of the decision.

The court adjourned prior cases to prioritize the NEET-UG pleas, acknowledging the urgency due to the impact on numerous students awaiting resolution. It also considered the ongoing CBI probe into alleged irregularities, cautioning against premature disclosures that could compromise the investigation.

Over 40 petitions, including those from the National Testing Agency (NTA) seeking consolidation of litigations from various high courts, are being heard to streamline the legal process.

NEET-UG 2024 saw participation from over 23.33 lakh students across multiple centers globally, with the Centre and NTA defending the integrity of the exam amidst calls for cancellation, citing potential harm to honest candidates without substantial evidence of widespread misconduct.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) remains pivotal for admissions to medical and related courses nationwide, underscoring the significance of the ongoing judicial deliberations.
