Delhi LG Raises Concerns Over CM Kejriwal’s Health in Tihar Jail
New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has expressed serious concerns regarding the health of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody at Tihar jail, alleging deliberate non-compliance with prescribed medical diet and insulin.
In a communication from Raj Niwas, Saxena cited a report by the prison’s Superintendent highlighting instances of “willful low calorie intake” by Kejriwal, despite adequate provision of home-cooked food. The CM, who has a history of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus, allegedly did not adhere to the prescribed diet and insulin dosage as recommended.
The LG’s office conveyed that Saxena has urged prison authorities to ensure Kejriwal adheres strictly to his medical regimen to safeguard his health. The reported weight loss and fluctuations in blood sugar levels have raised additional concerns, prompting calls for verification by medical experts.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP-led Centre of orchestrating a conspiracy to jeopardize Kejriwal’s health during his incarceration, alleging significant health complications including severe drops in blood sugar levels that could potentially lead to coma and brain damage.
According to the LG’s letter to the Chief Secretary, monitoring charts indicate that Kejriwal did not fully consume the prescribed diet for all meals between June 6 and July 13. Additionally, discrepancies between glucometer and continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) readings have been noted, necessitating further medical verification.
On specific dates, including June 18 and July 6, instances of missed insulin doses and refusal of prescribed medication were reported by prison authorities, adding to the concerns highlighted by the LG.
There has been no immediate response from the AAP government regarding these allegations. The situation remains fluid as stakeholders await further developments and responses regarding the health and well-being of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
This development underscores ongoing tensions between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office, with health concerns emerging as a focal point amidst political and administrative disputes.
