Hyderabad: Traffic Police Officers Filmed Assaulting Men, Spark Public Outrage
Hyderabad: In a troubling development, a video capturing the violent assault of two men by traffic police officers in Chevella, Telangana, has ignited widespread condemnation and scrutiny of police conduct. The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, depicts a traffic police officer, identified as Inspector Venkatesham of the Chevella Traffic Police Station, physically assaulting one of the men by grabbing him by the collar and kicking him in full view of the public.
In the same video, a traffic constable named J. Srinu and another policeman, Keshav, are seen attacking another individual who was with the first man. The brutal nature of the assault has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, highlighting a disturbing trend of excessive force by law enforcement.
The police department has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, the video’s impact has been profound, prompting immediate reactions from political leaders and the public.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader T. Harish Rao condemned the officers’ actions as a “gross misuse of power.” On social media platform X, Rao urged Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP) to take “swift and strict action” against those involved. He emphasized the need to uphold justice and restore public trust, stressing that “friendly policing should not turn into brutal policing in our state.”
This incident follows a similar case in Jeedimetla, where a sub-inspector was previously filmed attacking a truck driver, further amplifying concerns about police behavior in the region.
