Tamil Film Producers Council Orders Enquiry into Former President Vishal’s Financial Conduct
Vishal, who served as President of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) from 2017 to 2019, has been replaced by Murali Ramasamy of Sri Thenandal Films in 2023. The TFPC has now initiated an enquiry into Vishal for alleged misuse of council funds during his tenure.
According to a statement released by the TFPC, the Tamil Nadu government appointed a special officer in 2019 to review the council’s accounts. The auditor’s report indicated a significant mismanagement of funds, totaling approximately ₹12 crores. This includes ₹7.5 crores from the council’s bank deposits and ₹5 crores from income and expenditure between 2017 and 2019. Despite multiple requests for the return of the misused funds, Vishal has not responded, prompting the council to take further action.
In response, Vishal has publicly criticized the council’s actions. In a tweet, he defended his tenure, stating, “The funds were used for the welfare of struggling members of the producers council, including education, medical insurance, and basic welfare during festivals. The accusations are misguided, and there are pressing issues such as double taxation and theater maintenance charges that need attention.”
Vishal’s statement underscores his commitment to continue working in the film industry despite the ongoing controversy, while urging the council to focus on resolving industry-wide issues rather than internal disputes. The TFPC has advised producers and technicians who worked with Vishal to consult with the association for further guidance.
