New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Launch Key Criminal Justice and Infrastructure Initiatives in Chandigarh
On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate several transformative systems designed to enhance the criminal justice framework and a significant infrastructure project in Chandigarh. The newly introduced systems—e-evidence, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti, and e-summon—aim to modernize and streamline judicial processes, reflecting the latest updates in criminal law effective from July 1.
These systems are part of the broader legal reforms encapsulated in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Act, which have replaced the British-era Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872.
In addition to these judicial advancements, Shah will also inaugurate a 24×7 water supply project under the Smart City Mission in Manimajra, Chandigarh. This Rs 75 crore project, which will benefit over 100,000 residents, aims to ensure efficient water management through continuous high-pressure supply, leakage reduction, smart metering, and decreased reliance on groundwater. The initiative is set to minimize water wastage and enhance energy monitoring, aligning with the Smart City Mission’s objectives.
