ED to Submit Response to K Kavitha’s Bail Plea by August 22, Supreme Court Hearing Scheduled
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has informed the Supreme Court that it will submit its response to BRS leader K Kavitha’s bail application in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam by August 22.
Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, representing both the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), informed the bench of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan that the CBI’s counter affidavit has already been filed. The ED’s counter affidavit is currently in preparation and is expected to be completed by the stated deadline.
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for August 27. On August 12, the Court requested responses from both the CBI and the ED regarding Kavitha’s petitions challenging a July 1 order from the Delhi High Court that denied her bail in the two related cases.
The Delhi High Court had rejected Kavitha’s bail applications, citing her as a key figure in the alleged criminal conspiracy concerning the now-repealed Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Both the CBI and the ED have initiated separate investigations into corruption and money laundering linked to the policy’s implementation.
Kavitha, who was arrested by the ED on March 15 at her Hyderabad residence and by the CBI on April 11 while in Tihar Jail, has consistently denied the allegations against her.
