Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Engages with US National Security Advisor and Defence Industry Leaders
Washington: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to discuss key strategic issues of mutual interest, following the recent signing of two significant agreements aimed at strengthening the US-India global strategic partnership.
Singh, who arrived in Washington on Thursday for a four-day official visit, expressed his pleasure in meeting Sullivan and exchanging views on important strategic matters via a post on X. His visit underscores India’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties with the US.
During his trip, Singh also held a productive discussion with leading US defence companies at the Defence Industry Roundtable, organized by the US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). He extended an invitation to these companies to collaborate with Indian partners, advancing the Make in India initiative and contributing to India’s goal of self-reliance in the defence sector. Singh emphasized the potential for joint development and production ventures that could serve global markets.
In a luncheon roundtable with USISPF Board members and defence industry leaders, Singh highlighted the significant progress in the US-India defence relationship and the crucial role that US investments will play in India’s growth trajectory and Vision 2047.
Additionally, Singh had a notable meeting with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, where they reviewed existing defence cooperation and explored avenues to deepen the collaboration.
The recent agreements signed include the Security of Supplies Arrangement (SOSA) and a Memorandum of Agreement for the assignment of Indian officers to key US commands. These agreements are considered groundbreaking for the bilateral defence relationship.
Throughout his visit, Singh also engaged with the Indian community, further solidifying the ties between the two nations.
