Mohanlal Resigns as AMMA President Following Hema Committee Report
The Malayalam film industry and Kerala media were rocked by the revelations of the Hema committee report, which detailed instances of sexual harassment and exploitation within the industry. The shocking findings prompted immediate reactions, including significant changes within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
On Tuesday, Mohanlal, the prominent actor and President of AMMA, stepped down from his position. This decision follows the earlier resignations of AMMA’s General Secretary Siddique, Vice-President Jeyan R, and Joint Secretary Baburaj, all of whom had resigned in response to the report.
AMMA officially announced the resignations, stating, “In the context of the sexual harassment accusations leveled against some officials of the administrative committee of AMMA in the media following the release of the Hema committee report, the existing administrative committee of AMMA has decided to resign, accepting moral responsibility. A general body meeting will be held within two months to elect a new administrative committee.”
The report has intensified scrutiny on Mohanlal and other AMMA members, escalating pressure for them to address the allegations and take appropriate action. The resignations signal a significant shift within the organization as it grapples with the fallout from the report’s findings.
