Hyderabad Authorities Crack Down on Unauthorised Constructions: BRS MLA’s Colleges Targeted

Hyderabad Continuing its crackdown on unauthorised constructions, Greater Hyderabad authorities issued notices on Wednesday to institutions owned by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy. The notices were directed at the MLR Institute of Technology (MLRIT) and the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, both situated in Dundigal, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The action follows allegations that these colleges were constructed illegally within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer Zone of Chinna Damaracheruvu Lake. These institutions are part of a network run by the family of BRS leader Malla Reddy, who is also the father-in-law of Rajasekhar Reddy.

This move is part of a broader initiative by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to address encroachments on lakes, ponds, water bodies, parks, roads, and open lands. The crackdown has seen several high-profile demolitions, including those involving popular actor Nagarjuna, an AIMIM MLA, and MLCs, as well as other politicians.

Last week, a police case was filed against BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy for allegedly constructing Anurag University in the buffer zone of a water body at Venkatapuram, Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The Anurag Group of Institutions, managed by Gayatri Educational Trust, was accused of trespassing and damaging Nadam Cheruvu, a restored tank.

HYDRAA has recently focused on educational institutions linked to Rajasekhar Reddy, Malla Reddy, and AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for similar violations. BJP corporators have also raised concerns about Fatima Owaisi College, which they allege is built in the FTL of Salakam Cheruvu Lake.

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath noted that demolishing educational institutions during the academic year could adversely affect students. Several parents have requested postponement of demolitions until the academic year concludes.

In addition to the notices, officials visited Fatima Owaisi College and a farmhouse leased by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao in Janwada village, Rangareddy district. Despite the High Court’s refusal to restrain demolition actions, HYDRAA is expected to proceed with the farmhouse case.

Rama Rao has expressed willingness to cooperate if the farmhouse was illegally constructed but has called for similar action against Congress leaders’ properties violating regulations.

Since its establishment, HYDRAA has reclaimed 43 acres of land from illegal structures on lakes. This includes demolitions at the N-Convention Centre, AIMIM MLA Mohammed Mubeen’s buildings, and other high-profile properties.
