HYDRA Chief Clarifies Demolition of Nagarjuna’s N-Convention

Hyderabad: AV Ranganath, the head of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA), has addressed the recent demolition of Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N-Convention in Madhapur, providing clarity on the legality of the construction.

Ranganath confirmed that while the N-Convention was constructed on patta land, such lands are designated for agricultural use only and do not permit building constructions. He stated, “The construction of N-Convention was undertaken without the necessary permissions, and it was situated within the Full Tank Level (FTL) zone.”

Ranganath explained that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had issued an initial notice regarding the illegal construction in 2014. In response, the owners of N-Convention filed a petition with the High Court, which mandated a survey of the land. The subsequent survey confirmed that the construction was indeed unauthorized, leading to a second GHMC notification.

Despite attempts by the N-Convention owners to regularize the building under the Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS), they had not secured the required permissions over the past decade. Ranganath emphasized that this lack of compliance justified the demolition of the structure.

The clarification comes after Nagarjuna publicly claimed that the construction was legal, asserting that the land was owned legitimately. Ranganath’s statements provide a detailed account of the procedural and legal issues that led to the demolition.
