Telangana Government Issues Demolition Notices Near Durgam Cheruvu Lake
The Telangana government has initiated a significant enforcement action concerning properties adjacent to Durgam Cheruvu lake, issuing demolition notices to several high-profile structures. Among the properties targeted are those belonging to A Tirupathi Reddy, the brother of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The demolition notices, which have been posted on properties within the Madhapur Amar Cooperative Society, specify that these buildings encroach upon the lake’s non-development zone. Owners have been given a 30-day deadline to remove their structures.
In addition to Reddy’s properties, notices have been issued to residents in nearby areas including Nectars Colony, Doctors Colony, Kavuri Hills, and Amar Society. These actions are being carried out under Section 23(1) of the Water, Land and Tree Act (WALTA), which governs land use and encroachment issues.
Revenue officials, led by the Rangareddy district collector and the Serilingampally deputy collector, have emphasized that the notices are a preventive measure to ensure that encroaching structures beyond permissible limits are addressed. Should property owners fail to comply, the authorities will proceed with the demolitions directly.
This enforcement action has sparked concern among local residents and business owners, who face potential disruption and displacement as a result of the crackdown. The government’s move highlights its commitment to maintaining environmental and developmental regulations around critical areas like Durgam Cheruvu lake.
