Title: Israeli Military Issues Shelter Advisories Amid Rising Tensions with Hezbollah
Jerusalem: The Israeli military has advised residents in numerous northern communities to remain close to shelters and limit outdoor activities due to potential retaliatory actions from Hezbollah. This caution follows recent explosions linked to Hezbollah’s communication devices across Lebanon, resulting in at least 37 fatalities and nearly 3,000 injuries, according to Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad. While Israel has not claimed responsibility for these blasts, Hezbollah has accused Israel and promised retaliation.
Residents in areas such as Upper Galilee and the occupied Golan Heights have been instructed to minimize movement, avoid gatherings, and remain vigilant about community access points. This directive comes from the Home Front Command after a significant Israeli airstrike campaign targeting Hezbollah.
On Thursday night, the Israeli military conducted one of its largest operations against Hezbollah, reportedly striking 100 rocket launchers, which included around 1,000 barrels. The military emphasized its ongoing commitment to degrade Hezbollah’s operational capabilities.
In retaliation, Lebanese military sources reported that approximately 60 Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah positions in southern and eastern Lebanon, prompting about 50 Katyusha rockets to be launched into northern Israel.
These developments follow a surge in hostilities that began on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah initiated rocket fire at Israel in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, leading to a cycle of artillery fire and airstrikes. The ongoing conflict has already resulted in significant casualties and displaced tens of thousands on both sides, further escalating the regional tensions.
