Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Denounces Media for Spreading ‘Fake News’ on Wayanad Landslide Aid

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticized a segment of the media on Saturday for allegedly disseminating “fake news” regarding the memorandum prepared by the state government seeking central aid following the Wayanad landslide disaster. He condemned this behavior as “destructive journalism” during a press conference.

“What is happening in Kerala is destructive journalism. A section of the media has turned into factories for creating controversies,” Vijayan stated. He expressed concern that such misinformation has discredited the state, leading to a distorted narrative suggesting that Kerala was attempting to unfairly claim aid.

Vijayan highlighted that the opposition has capitalized on these misleading reports, asserting that the intent behind these stories was to undermine the credibility of the state government. “The aim was to discredit the state government by any means,” he added.

The Chief Minister clarified that the memorandum drafted in response to the disaster is prepared by professionals with expertise, not by the ministers themselves. He emphasized that the media has misinterpreted the data provided by these experts.

Furthermore, Vijayan reassured that the figures included in the memorandum are not exaggerated; rather, they are projected estimates meant to accurately reflect the situation. His statements underline the ongoing tension between the government and certain media outlets amid the challenging context of disaster management and recovery efforts in the state.
