PM Modi Promises Corruption-Free Governance at Jammu Rally Ahead of Assembly Elections

Jammu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally at M A M Stadium on Saturday, emphasizing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for a government free from “corruption, terrorism, and separatism.” As the region gears up for the final phase of assembly elections on October 1, Modi labeled the Congress, National Conference (NC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the “biggest enemies” of the Constitution.

During his nearly 45-minute speech, Modi highlighted the enthusiasm among the populace for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that the people, long affected by the rule of these three families, do not wish for their return. “They want peace and a better future for their children,” he stated, underscoring the sentiment against past governance marked by discrimination and violence.

The Prime Minister referenced the 2016 surgical strikes as evidence of his government’s resolve against terrorism, stating, “The terror mentors know that if they do anything wrong, Modi will find them even in ‘Pataal’ (the netherworld).” He claimed that the heavy voter turnout in the previous phases of the elections reflected the public’s desire for change and a BJP-led government.

Modi accused previous administrations of neglecting the Jammu region and asserted that the BJP would address local issues. “This is the city of temples. Do not waste this opportunity,” he urged attendees, promising that a BJP government would prioritize their concerns.

Furthermore, Modi criticized the Congress for its historical role in fostering conditions that led to terrorism in the region. He claimed that the party’s policies encouraged adversarial forces and characterized its leaders as benefitting personally while the common people suffered. “The Congress is responsible for the loss of generations to terrorism,” he declared.

In a poignant moment, Modi recalled the 2016 surgical strike, emphasizing its significance in showcasing India’s military capability. He accused Congress of questioning the validity of this operation, saying, “Will you pardon the Congress for such language?”

Highlighting the BJP’s achievements, Modi mentioned the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) shortly after his government took office, contrasting this with Congress’s previous hesitance. He further accused the Congress of being influenced by “urban Naxals,” alleging that they prioritize vote bank politics over the welfare of local communities.

In his concluding remarks, Modi reiterated that the BJP honors the Constitution, stating that his government has extended voting rights to previously marginalized groups such as West Pakistani refugees, Gorkhas, and Valmikis. He criticized the opposition parties for their failure to conduct panchayat and local body elections, suggesting that they have undermined democratic processes.

Modi’s visit marks his third trip to Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks, as he intensifies campaigning ahead of the last phase of the elections. He concluded his address by paying homage to prominent figures from the region’s history, including Maharaja Hari Singh and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

As the high-stakes campaigning wraps up, the Prime Minister’s message resonates with many voters who are eager for a new political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.
