K.T. Rama Rao Criticizes Congress Government Over Musi Riverfront Development Project

Hyderabad: K.T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has intensified his criticism of the Congress-led government in Telangana, specifically targeting the Musi Riverfront Development project. During an interaction with residents in Tulasi Nagar, located within the Amberpet constituency—an area marked for redevelopment—Rama Rao alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is enacting revenge on Hyderabad’s citizens for not supporting Congress in recent Assembly elections.

Rama Rao asserted that the Chief Minister is inflicting chaos and distress upon the populace, particularly during festive periods such as Dussehra and Bathukamma. He expressed concern for the vulnerable communities living along the Musi River, who face uncertainty and fear of losing their homes due to imminent government actions.

In his remarks, K.T. Rama Rao highlighted the discrepancy between Revanth Reddy’s pre-election promises and the current situation. He called into question the fulfillment of the six guarantees the Congress leader had pledged to deliver within the first 100 days of his tenure, particularly those aimed at benefiting farmers, women, and the elderly.

Rama Rao voiced skepticism regarding Congress’s ambitious plan to invest Rs 1.5 lakh crore in cleaning a 55-kilometer stretch of the Musi River. He suggested that the true motive behind this initiative may be the misappropriation of public funds disguised as development efforts.

As he urged local residents to unite against potential demolitions, KTR emphasized the importance of questioning government officials about their own families’ welfare. He condemned Congress for its apparent hypocrisy, recalling past promises made under the “Indiramma Rajyam” banner, which aimed to provide housing instead of demolishing homes.

In a pointed critique, he declared that the lands of the poor should not be seized for the construction of commercial projects, questioning whether such actions received approval from Congress leadership, including Sonia Gandhi. He also expressed disappointment over Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s silence on the matter, suggesting a potential collusion between him and Revanth Reddy that could adversely affect the marginalized.

K.T. Rama Rao further accused the Congress government of cancelling various welfare schemes, including Bathukamma saris and KCR Kits, which he argued reflects an anti-poor agenda. He warned constituents that trusting Revanth Reddy would likely result in greater losses for the underprivileged, labeling him as a significant fraud.

The BRS leader demanded clarity on why the estimated cost of the Musi River project had escalated tenfold from the original Rs 16,000 crore. He insisted that, should the project proceed, adequate compensation—three times the value of affected properties—along with job offers and financial assistance, must be provided to those impacted.

KTR concluded by branding the alleged practices of the Congress government with the phrase “Musi mein looto, Delhi mein baanto,” suggesting a pattern of corruption and mismanagement. He assured the public that the BRS would remain vigilant and proactive in opposing any reckless actions that jeopardize the interests of the poor.
