Puja Aparna Kolluru to Direct India’s First Female Superhero Film, Mahakali
Prasanth Varma’s production venture, PVCU, is set to make waves again with its latest announcement: Mahakali, India’s first female superhero film, will be directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru. Following the success of Varma’s debut film, HanuMan, and a recent collaboration with Nandamuri Mokshagnya, excitement is building around this new project.
Mahakali is set against a backdrop of Bengali culture, where Goddess Kali is revered, and promises to be a visually stunning experience, thanks to a large budget and high production values from RKD Studios. The film is written by Prasanth Varma and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal.
The recently unveiled title poster features a striking image of a girl with a tiger, set in a circus environment as chaos unfolds with a giant wheel on fire. This imagery hints at the thrilling elements that fans can expect, much like in HanuMan, where special objects play a significant role.
Planned for release in all Indian and select foreign languages, Mahakali will also be available in 3D IMAX format, enhancing the cinematic experience. The film’s music will be composed by Smaran Sai, while Sri Nagendra Tangalla will handle production design. Further details regarding the lead cast and technical team will be announced in the coming weeks.
With its groundbreaking premise and a strong female lead, Mahakali is poised to redefine the superhero genre in Indian cinema.
