BJP Responds to NC’s Call for Jammu and Kashmir Statehood Restoration

New Delhi – In response to the National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah’s pledge to seek the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) statehood, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi emphasized the collaborative approach of the Central and state governments in addressing this issue. On Friday, October 11, Naqvi asserted that discussions would be held to gather suggestions and implement decisions that align with constitutional provisions.

Speaking to IANS, Naqvi highlighted the recent elections in J&K as a triumph for democracy, noting the enthusiastic participation of voters. He remarked, “The election held in J&K was for the victory of democracy. People exercised their right to vote with great passion and enthusiasm, demonstrating that the people of J&K believe in democracy with values and decorum.”

Naqvi stressed that the new government in J&K carries a constitutional obligation to focus on the welfare of its citizens. “The new government has a responsibility to work diligently for the security, respect, and prosperity of the Union Territory,” he stated, adding that any proposals discussed between the Central and state governments would be executed in accordance with the Constitution.

Additionally, Naqvi criticized the Congress party for questioning the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) following their lackluster performance in the Haryana Assembly polls. He remarked, “The Congress is not seeing its own shortcomings. They are cleaning the mirror despite having dust on their face. If there is dust on their face, they should not wash the mirror.”

He contended that the Congress party’s issues are self-inflicted, urging them to acknowledge the root problems rather than deflecting blame onto the electoral process. Naqvi noted, “They didn’t perform well in Haryana because of their shortcomings. However, they are now raising questions about the EVMs after facing defeat. First, they should try to solve the problems they are having within their party.”

Concluding his remarks, Naqvi pointed out the premature claims made by several Congress leaders about aspiring to become the Chief Minister of Haryana, suggesting they failed to accurately gauge the public sentiment leading up to the elections.

As discussions surrounding J&K’s political future continue, the dynamics between the BJP and NC will remain pivotal in shaping the region’s governance and its relationship with the central authority.
