Uddhav Thackeray Appeals to Chief Justice to Save Democracy at Dussehra Rally

Mumbai: At the annual Dussehra Day Rally held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park in Dadar West, Shiv Sena (UBT) President and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray made a passionate appeal to Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, urging him to act decisively to safeguard democracy in the country. Thackeray emphasized the importance of judicial action, stating, “If you really want to go down in history, then now is the opportunity… save democracy, save democracy, save democracy.”

Thackeray’s remarks were directed at the pending legal battles involving the undivided Shiv Sena and the original Nationalist Congress Party, which have been unresolved for several years. Expressing his frustration over the delays in justice, he lamented, “We are tired of knocking at the doors of justice, but they are not opening up.”

During his address, Thackeray criticized the judiciary, noting that three Chief Justices have completed their terms without providing justice for his party, calling it a “mockery of democracy.” He further commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the Chief Justice’s home, stating, “Do worship of Lord Ganesha as we all do. But when you come to the temple of justice, you must ensure that you also make the Goddess of Justice feel proud.”

Thackeray did not hold back in his criticism of the current BJP government, branding it as a “hybrid” party filled with “traitors and thieves.” He called for unity among Hindus but questioned the effectiveness of the BJP’s policies over the past decade. “You speak of Bangladesh but you didn’t notice what the BJP did to Maharashtra,” he stated, referencing the alleged political maneuvering that led to the downfall of his government.

The rally also featured discussions about the recent controversy surrounding the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which reportedly suffered damage shortly after being inaugurated by PM Modi. Thackeray promised that a future Maha Vikas Aghadi government would construct temples and memorials for Shivaji in each district.

In closing, Thackeray warned the current regime about reviewing its recent decisions, asserting that those harmful to the state would be reversed, and accountability would be demanded from bureaucrats involved.

The event was attended by key party figures, including Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve, Aditya Thackeray, and various elected officials from across Maharashtra, solidifying the party’s stance and unity as it prepares for upcoming elections.
