India Aims for Peace with China: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Gajraj Corps
Guwahati: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized India’s commitment to continuing the peace process with China, aligning with the diplomatic ideals of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. Speaking to Indian Army personnel at the Gajraj Corps headquarters in Tezpur during the ‘Bada Khana’ event, Singh praised the soldiers’ contributions to fostering peace.
“We want to maintain good relations with our neighbors, as articulated by Vajpayee: we can change friends but not neighbors,” Singh stated. He acknowledged that while the government strives for peaceful relations, there are moments that necessitate vigilance and effort to secure the country’s borders.
Highlighting the significance of the Northeast region for national security, Singh noted its beauty and the challenges posed by its geography. He reiterated that discussions between India and China have been ongoing to resolve border issues, referencing recent disengagement at two friction points in eastern Ladakh—Demchok and Depsang Plains.
“This is a significant development at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Our collective efforts have fostered a consensus on the ground situation,” he remarked.
Singh’s visit to Tawang, initially planned for the day, was postponed due to bad weather. He humorously noted, “Destiny decided that I should enjoy the ‘bada khana’ at Tezpur’s Gajraj Corps instead.”
The event, which brings together all ranks for a communal meal, symbolizes unity and camaraderie within the armed forces.
