India’s Fearless Approach Draws Global Support: Laxman and Yadav Praise Fans in South Africa
Johannesburg: Stand-in head coach VVS Laxman praised the Indian cricket team’s “fearless” approach during the ongoing T20I series against South Africa, a style he believes has earned them widespread support across the globe. India leads the four-match series 2-1, with the final match set to be played at Wanderers Stadium.
At a reception hosted for the Indian team on Thursday night, Laxman highlighted the team’s fearless mindset, noting that it has been a key factor behind their consistent performance. “What we have seen in these three matches is the fearless approach of this team,” he said. “We always feel that we are playing at home when we tour, and the reason for that is the wonderful fans of the Indian cricket team – the Indian diaspora that has settled all over the world but still passionately supports us.”
Laxman also expressed his appreciation for the crowd’s energy, saying, “I don’t know if the support was for the home team or for our team in South Africa, but there was a lot more blue in the crowd than green.”
Captain Suryakumar Yadav echoed his coach’s sentiments, adding, “It’s always great to meet the Indian community when we come away from home. It makes us feel like we are at home. It’s nice to have such a lovely evening in between a tournament and a bilateral series. It really helps us unwind.”
Indian Consul General Mahesh Kumar reflected on the deep-rooted cricketing ties between India and South Africa, dating back over a century. “Cricket relations between India and South Africa can serve as a model for broader bilateral relations. Despite interruptions during apartheid, cricket has now become inclusive and free from racial divides, embodying shared values and ambitions between our countries,” he said.
Pearl Maphoshe, Chairman of Cricket South Africa, expressed his admiration for the Indian team, calling for more future engagements. “We cannot have enough of Indian teams in South Africa. We love you all,” he said, quoting the famous saying, “Cricket in India is not just a sport, but a way of life.”
The Indian team’s fearless cricket, along with the continued support from Indian fans abroad, has undoubtedly strengthened the bond between the two cricketing nations.
