AIMIM Intensifies Campaign in Maharashtra Ahead of Assembly Elections
As Maharashtra prepares for its crucial Assembly elections on November 20, political campaigns are gaining momentum across the state, with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) stepping up its efforts to make a significant impact. A key player in this push is AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain, who has been actively campaigning for his party’s candidate, Imtiaz Jaleel, in the key constituency of Aurangabad.
Majid Hussain Leads the Charge in Aurangabad
Majid Hussain, a prominent leader of AIMIM, has been at the forefront of the party’s election strategy. Recently, he addressed a public gathering at Roushan Gate in Aurangabad, calling on voters to support Imtiaz Jaleel in the upcoming elections. His involvement in the campaign comes as AIMIM seeks to bolster its presence in Maharashtra, particularly in urban and Muslim-majority constituencies.
Hussain’s presence in Aurangabad is part of a broader effort by AIMIM to expand its footprint in the state. Earlier, he had also campaigned in Dhule City, Maharashtra, signaling the party’s growing influence across diverse regions. As AIMIM seeks to carve out a space in Maharashtra’s political landscape, Hussain’s active participation in the electioneering process highlights his role as one of the party’s key figures.
Imtiaz Jaleel’s Political Journey
Imtiaz Jaleel is another major figure in AIMIM’s Maharashtra campaign. A seasoned politician, Jaleel has made significant strides in his career. He won the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat in 2019, marking a historic victory for AIMIM in the region. His tenure as an MP, however, came to an end after he was defeated in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by Shiv Sena’s Sandipanrao Bhumre.
Before his stint in Parliament, Jaleel served as an MLA for the Aurangabad Central Constituency, showcasing his strong local roots and leadership in the region. Currently, Jaleel serves as the state president of AIMIM in Maharashtra, playing a critical role in shaping the party’s strategy for the Assembly elections. With his leadership and experience, Jaleel is expected to be a central figure in AIMIM’s bid to strengthen its presence in the state legislature.
AIMIM’s Assembly Election Strategy
AIMIM has set its sights on contesting 16 constituencies in Maharashtra in the upcoming Assembly elections. The party is particularly focused on mobilizing support in key regions such as Aurangabad, where both Majid Hussain and Imtiaz Jaleel have been active in engaging with voters. AIMIM’s strategy appears to be centered on consolidating its base among the Muslim community and appealing to urban voters who feel underrepresented by the current political establishment.
With the support of seasoned leaders like Hussain and Jaleel, AIMIM is aiming to increase its share of seats in the Maharashtra Assembly. The party’s involvement in the state’s politics, though relatively recent, has grown steadily over the years, especially after the party’s success in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Now, as the Assembly elections approach, AIMIM is looking to build on this momentum and secure a stronger position within the state’s political landscape.
The Political Landscape: MVA vs. MahaYuti
The battle in Maharashtra is shaping up to be a contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, and Congress, and the ruling MahaYuti alliance comprising the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, the BJP, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction. The MVA is campaigning aggressively, aiming to challenge the dominance of the ruling coalition, while the MahaYuti government is also making its case with key welfare schemes like the Ladki Bahin initiative for women.
In this context, AIMIM’s growing influence adds another layer to the political dynamics in Maharashtra. While the MVA and MahaYuti are engaged in a fierce contest for the state’s political leadership, AIMIM’s push for more seats and its outreach to marginalized communities could play a pivotal role in shaping the election outcome.
