Congress Pays Tribute to Indira Gandhi on Her Birth Anniversary, Hails Her Leadership and Legacy
New Delhi: The Congress party on Tuesday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary, remembering her transformative leadership and indomitable spirit. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared a heartfelt message, recalling lessons learned from his grandmother, describing her as a symbol of courage and strength. “It is from her that I have learnt that real strength is to fearlessly walk on the path of national interest,” Rahul Gandhi posted on X, reflecting on the enduring influence of the ‘Iron Lady of India’.
Indira Gandhi, born on November 19, 1917, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, is remembered as one of India’s most influential leaders. On the occasion, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes at her memorial, Shakti Sthal in Delhi, while Rahul also visited the Indira Gandhi Memorial at 1 Safdarjung Road.
In his tribute, Kharge praised Indira Gandhi for her lifelong struggle, courage, and dynamic leadership, saying that crores of Indians continue to draw inspiration from her contributions to nation-building. “She sacrificed her life to preserve the unity and integrity of India. Our humble homage on her birth anniversary,” Kharge wrote on X.
Rahul Gandhi also shared a personal reflection, noting that his grandmother was not only a figure of courage but also of love. “Her memories are my strength, which always show me the way,” he added.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary, also paid tribute to her grandmother, remembering how Indira Gandhi always began her election campaigns in Nandurbar, Maharashtra, where she championed the rights of tribal communities. She noted how Indira Gandhi empowered tribals, Dalits, and other marginalized groups through progressive policies. “Dadi ji! The lessons of service and culture given by you will always remain with us,” Priyanka Gandhi posted on X.
K C Venugopal, Congress General Secretary (Organisation), also commemorated the occasion, calling Indira Gandhi a leader whose instincts and commitment to the nation’s well-being set her apart. “Her life is an inspiration for everyone,” he said, emphasizing her courage to take on challenges in the supreme interest of India.
The Congress party, in its official tribute, described Indira Gandhi as an embodiment of strength and resilience, praising her leadership that propelled India to new heights. “Her transformative leadership propelled India to new heights, breaking barriers and shaping India’s future. We pay our heartfelt tribute to Indira ji, whose patriotism and devotion to the nation inspire millions,” the party stated.
As the Congress continues to champion the values instilled by Indira Gandhi, it also highlighted its ongoing demands for a caste census and an increase in reservation limits for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, policies that echo Indira Gandhi’s commitment to social justice and equality.
