Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Extends Lead in Wayanad Bypoll, Secures Over 3 Lakh Votes
Wayanad: Congress-led UDF candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has taken a commanding lead in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, extending her margin by over three lakh votes after four hours of vote counting on Saturday. As per the Election Commission’s data at 11:23 am, Priyanka had secured 5,25,763 votes, with CPI(M)-led LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri trailing at 1,78,478 votes. BJP’s Navya Haridas was in third place with 97,184 votes.
The counting, which began at 8 am, first included postal ballots. The EVMs had been kept in strong rooms and were opened over an hour prior to the start of the process. The bypoll, held on November 13, saw 16 candidates contesting, but the main contenders were Priyanka Gandhi, making her electoral debut, Sathyan Mokeri, a political veteran from the LDF, and Navya Haridas from the BJP-led NDA.
