PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for Maharana Pratap Horticulture University’s Main Campus in Karnal
Chandigarh, Nov 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticulture University in Karnal on December 9, as announced by Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana. The announcement was made during a ceremony celebrating the foundation day of the university in Karnal, with Indri MLA and Chief Whip, Ramkumar Kashyap, also attending the event.
Minister Rana spoke about the pivotal role of agriculture in India’s economy, highlighting the country’s fertile land and the resilience of farmers, especially during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that while many sectors were impacted, agriculture remained a constant contributor to the economy.
Rana further emphasized the importance of prioritizing agriculture to tackle issues like unemployment and underlined the need for promoting more sustainable and profitable farming practices. He advocated for the cultivation of coarse grains, pointing out that traditional crops like wheat and paddy were not yielding sufficient profits for farmers and were contributing to water scarcity.
The Minister also praised Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to encourage farmers to grow coarse grains, which he believes will not only provide economic benefits but also promote healthier food options for the public. On the occasion, Rana noted that the university’s name, Maharana Pratap Horticulture University, was proposed by him, recognizing the legacy of Maharana Pratap as the first freedom fighter, revered globally.
Vice Chancellor Suresh Malhotra provided an overview of the university’s achievements and expressed optimism that the institution would soon become a model for agricultural education, not just in India but globally. Rana assured the Haryana government’s full support to ensure the university’s success and contribution to the agricultural sector.
The upcoming foundation stone ceremony marks a significant step in advancing horticultural education in Haryana and further enhancing the state’s agricultural landscape.
