Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Warn of Scam Calls from International Numbers
Cybercriminals are increasingly using deceptive tactics to steal sensitive information, with phone calls and messages being their primary method of operation. Recently, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police issued a warning to the public about scam calls originating from international numbers. These calls are being used to extract critical personal data, such as bank account details and credit card information.
In their statement released on Tuesday, the police identified several suspicious numbers that are believed to be associated with cybercriminal activities. The following numbers have been flagged as potentially harmful:
- 56322553736
- 37052529259
- 94777455913
- 37127913091
- 255901130460
Countries and Area Codes to Watch Out For:
The suspicious calls appear to be originating from countries like Serbia (381), Iowa (563), Lithuania (370), Latvia (371), Belarus (375), and Tanzania (255). The scam typically unfolds when the victim answers the call, only for the scammer to abruptly disconnect. If the victim attempts to return the call, the cybercriminals can gain access to personal data, including the phone’s contact list, bank details, and credit card information within seconds.
Additional Warnings:
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have also advised against pressing certain codes like #90 or #09 if prompted during such calls. These codes could allow scammers to gain unauthorized access to the victim’s SIM card, potentially framing them for criminal activity or charging them for fraudulent calls made by the scammers.
Preventive Measures:
To protect themselves, the police urge citizens to:
- Avoid answering or returning calls from unknown international numbers.
- Be cautious of unsolicited instructions during calls from unknown sources.
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have emphasized the importance of vigilance and reporting any suspicious activity immediately to help curb the growing threat of cybercrime.
