Harish Rao Criticizes Congress Governance, Warns Police Against Political Interference

BRS senior MLA Harish Rao has issued a strong warning to the police, urging them to act in accordance with the Constitution and the law, rather than following political directives from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. In a press statement after his release from Gachibowli Police Station, Harish Rao condemned what he described as a politically motivated police force under the Congress government, asserting that future consequences would arise if such actions continued.

Rao accused the Congress government of undermining democratic values, likening it to the Emergency era under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He took aim at Revanth Reddy’s promises of “change,” labeling them as empty rhetoric. According to Rao, the Congress regime had replaced democratic governance with authoritarianism, citing instances of illegal arrests, detentions, and violations of constitutional rights. He claimed that police stations were now functioning as de facto Congress offices, where decisions about arrests and FIRs were being dictated by the party’s headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, rather than by law enforcement.

The MLA also criticized the Congress government’s failure to fulfill its electoral promises, particularly the six guarantees made by Revanth Reddy’s administration. Instead of delivering on these commitments, Rao alleged the government had created a “seventh guarantee” — a regime marked by constitutional violations and repressive measures.

Further highlighting his concerns, Rao recounted incidents such as the harsh treatment of unemployed youth during protests and the midnight raids on tribal communities. He reiterated his belief that this form of governance, characterized by silencing dissent through police force, was unsustainable and would not last. Drawing parallels to past political upheavals, Rao warned that no government that relied on oppressive tactics to stifle opposition would endure.
