TMC Officially Backs AAP in Delhi Assembly Elections, Kejriwal Thanks Mamata Banerjee
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has extended its support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, a move that strengthens AAP’s position as it prepares for the polls. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal expressed gratitude for the endorsement, thanking TMC chief Mamata Banerjee for her unwavering support.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Kejriwal wrote, “Thank you, Didi, for declaring support for the Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi elections. I personally thank you for always standing by us in both good and tough times, and for your blessings.” This declaration comes as the election schedule for Delhi has been set, with official notifications expected soon. Voting will take place in the first week of next month.
Despite both AAP and Congress being part of the broader INDIA alliance, the two parties will be contesting the Delhi elections separately, marking a shift from their joint efforts in the Lok Sabha elections. This development highlights ongoing tensions within the opposition alliance, but it also reflects strategic positioning as each party seeks to assert its influence in Delhi politics.
In addition to TMC, other members of the INDIA alliance such as the Samajwadi Party and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) have also pledged their support to AAP. With Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies at stake, AAP is hoping to retain its power, having governed the region since 2015. The support of significant regional players adds weight to AAP’s prospects, as the party prepares for a challenging electoral battle in Delhi.
