Acharya Satyendra Das, Chief Priest of Ayodhya Ram Temple, Passes Away at 85
Acharya Satyendra Das, the revered chief priest of the Ayodhya Ram Temple, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85. He had been undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow after suffering a brain stroke. His death was confirmed by his disciple, Pradeep Das. The temple’s chief priest had been battling diabetes and high blood pressure for some time.
He was admitted to the hospital on February 3 in critical condition and was receiving care in the neurology ward’s High Dependency Unit (HDU). His passing has left a significant void in the spiritual world, with tributes pouring in from all corners.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief, sharing a heartfelt tribute on social media. “The demise of Acharya Shri Satyendra Kumar Das Ji Maharaj, the supreme devotee of Lord Ram and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Shri Ayodhya Dham is extremely sad and an irreparable loss to the spiritual world. We pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant a place to the departed soul at his feet and give strength to the grief-stricken disciples and followers,” CM Yogi wrote on X.
Acharya Satyendra Das had served as the chief priest of the Ram temple for decades and was a significant figure in the religious and spiritual landscape of Ayodhya. He had been at the helm of the temporary Ram temple in 1992 when the Babri Masjid was demolished, marking a pivotal moment in the temple’s history.
Born into a devout family, Acharya Das chose the path of spirituality at the young age of 20 and became associated with the Nirvani Akhara, one of Ayodhya’s leading religious sects. His approachability and humility made him a beloved figure among followers, and he was often sought by journalists for insights into the Ram Temple movement.
The passing of Acharya Satyendra Das marks the end of an era, as he was the longest-serving chief priest of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, leaving behind a rich legacy in the spiritual world of Ayodhya and beyond.
