APCO and Co-optex Sign Historic Agreement to Boost Handloom Textile Sales Across States
In a landmark move to strengthen the handloom textile marketing sector, the Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO) and the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (Co-optex) have signed a significant agreement to sell each other’s handloom products in their respective showrooms across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The target for this initiative is to generate ₹9.20 crore in sales this year.
The formalization of the agreement took place during a Buyer-Seller Meet held in Vijayawada, attended by Andhra Pradesh Handlooms and Textiles Minister S. Savitha and Tamil Nadu Handlooms and Textiles Minister R. Gandhi. APCO Managing Director Pavan Murthy and Co-optex Managing Director Deepak Jacob exchanged the agreement documents in the presence of both ministers.
Under the agreement, textiles from Tamil Nadu will be available for sale at APCO outlets in Andhra Pradesh, while Andhra Pradesh’s handloom products will be sold through Co-optex showrooms in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, both states have signed agreements with organizations from key textile regions, including Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Erode, and Salem in Tamil Nadu, as well as firms from Andhra Pradesh.
Minister Savitha emphasized that this collaboration will significantly benefit handloom weavers in Andhra Pradesh, boosting the visibility and sales of their products. The event also featured a buyer-seller conference organized by the Tamil Nadu government, where Minister Savitha visited various handloom textile stalls.
This agreement marks a crucial step in enhancing cross-state trade and supporting the handloom sector in both states, helping local artisans gain access to broader markets.
