Jasprit Bumrah Receives ICC Awards Ahead of India-Pakistan Clash
As anticipation builds for the 2025 Champions Trophy clash between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been recognized for his outstanding performances in 2024. Although a lower back injury sustained during the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Sydney has ruled Bumrah out of playing in the Champions Trophy, he was in Dubai on Sunday to receive his ICC Awards and Team of the Year caps.
Bumrah was presented with his accolades by ICC Chairman Jay Shah at the Dubai International Stadium, with the pictures shared on social media by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Bumrah’s exceptional 2024 campaign earned him the prestigious ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award, as well as the Sir Garfield Sobers Award. His remarkable performance saw him claim 71 wickets in Test cricket at an average of 14.92. In the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, he was named Player of the Tournament after taking 15 wickets at an incredible average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17.
In addition, Bumrah was honored as the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, becoming the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets. His stellar year also saw him being named in both the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year and the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year.
After receiving his awards, Bumrah waved to his India teammates, who were warming up ahead of their highly-anticipated match against Pakistan. Interestingly, Bumrah had been present during an India-Pakistan game in Dubai last year, during the Women’s T20 World Cup, adding another layer of excitement to his presence at the stadium.
