Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Thanks Modi for Approval of Mamnoor Airport in Warangal
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the people of the state for the approval granted to Mamnoor Airport in Warangal. He also thanked Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for their support in making the project a reality.
During a media interaction at the Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, CM Reddy acknowledged his consistent efforts in pursuing the issue with the Prime Minister and Civil Aviation Minister. He confirmed that the approval of Mamnoor Airport aligns with the state’s commitment to enhancing regional air connectivity.
The airport’s approval came after GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) granted a one-time waiver for the exclusivity clause. This waiver will allow for the development of Mamnoor Airport, which is poised to enhance connectivity in the region.
“Warangal holds significant potential to become a key regional hub, driving growth and offering new opportunities for trade, tourism, and local employment,” said the Civil Aviation Minister.
A letter from the Chief Minister to Minister Naidu on November 5, 2024, reiterated the state’s strong support for the airport’s development under the UDAN scheme, in collaboration with AAI. The state government has already started acquiring land for the project, with Rs 205 crore allocated to secure 280.30 acres. The airport will be equipped to handle Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
Minister Naidu worked swiftly to secure a no-objection certificate from GMR Hyderabad Airport, which allowed the lifting of the exclusivity clause under Clause 5.2 of the concession agreement. Importantly, this exemption will only apply to Mamnoor Airport and will not affect other future projects within the exclusivity zone.
The AAI has already begun planning the necessary infrastructure for the airport, with the green light to proceed contingent on securing required regulatory approvals.
The Mamnoor Airport project is expected to be a transformative initiative for Warangal and the broader Telangana region, boosting regional development and offering a gateway to increased tourism, trade, and job creation.
