PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath Extend Ramzan Wishes, Highlighting Virtues of Fasting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt wishes to all citizens on the occasion of Ramzan, the sacred month of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide. In his message on social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “As the blessed month of Ramzan begins, may it bring peace and harmony in our society. This sacred month epitomises reflection, gratitude and devotion, also reminding us of the values of compassion, kindness, and service. Ramzan Mubarak!”

Ramadan began on Sunday in India, marking the first day of fasting for Muslims across the country. The commencement of the holy month was also observed in various other nations, following the sighting of the crescent moon.

Earlier, on Friday, PM Modi attended the 25th edition of Jahan-e-Khusrau, where he extended his advance greetings for Ramzan and praised India’s Sufi tradition for promoting inclusivity and harmony. His words resonated with the spirit of unity, reinforcing the values of peace and coexistence during this significant month.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also issued a statement, greeting people on the occasion of Ramadan. In his message, CM Yogi emphasized the virtues of fasting and self-discipline, highlighting the positive impact these practices have on fostering values such as tolerance, simplicity, and mutual brotherhood. “During these sacred days, good deeds such as fasting, self-discipline, patience, and worship foster values of tolerance, simplicity, and mutual brotherhood,” he said.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time when Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, with special prayers called Tarawih performed during the evenings. The month culminates in the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, following the sighting of the moon. On Saturday, Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed, the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Mosque in Chandni Chowk, along with various religious organizations, announced the beginning of Ramadan on March 2, 2025, as the crescent moon could not be sighted on Saturday due to weather conditions.

The observance of Ramadan involves not only fasting but also self-reflection, prayer, and community service. Muslims across the world join in the collective spirit of devotion and discipline, which serves as a reminder of the values of compassion and generosity that define this sacred period.
