BCCI Imposes New Practice Restrictions for IPL 2025 Season
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new guidelines for practice sessions ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In a bid to streamline operations and ensure better pitch preparation, the BCCI has placed restrictions on the number of practice sessions and matches that teams can conduct before the season commences.
According to the new regulations, each IPL team is permitted a total of only seven practice sessions and two warm-up matches. Additionally, teams will not be allowed to use the stadium for practice on match days, ensuring that the grounds are ready for the highly anticipated games.
The BCCI has also implemented a ban on the organization of other tournaments at IPL venues during the season to avoid any disruptions. Practice sessions will now be restricted to side wickets, with sessions under floodlights limited to 3 hours and 30 minutes. Moreover, teams are required to obtain prior written approval from the BCCI to organize practice matches.
In a crucial move to maintain pitch quality, the BCCI has enforced a rule prohibiting teams from conducting any practice sessions or matches on the main square during the four days leading up to their first home game. To accommodate teams wishing to practice simultaneously, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly.
These new operational guidelines were communicated to all IPL franchises through an official note from the BCCI, as reported by Cricbuzz.
The 2025 IPL season is set to begin on March 22, with the opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. As the season approaches, the BCCI’s measures are designed to ensure that the league runs smoothly and that the pitches are in optimal condition for the high-stakes matches.
