India Clinches ICC Champions Trophy Title with Dramatic Win Over New Zealand
Team India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, emerged victorious in the ICC Champions Trophy final, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in a thrilling encounter at Dubai International Stadium. Chasing a target of 252 runs set by New Zealand, India reached 254/6 in 49 overs, securing the win with an over to spare.
Although Virat Kohli had an off day, the rest of India’s top-order batters rose to the occasion. The match ended in dramatic fashion as Ravindra Jadeja struck a boundary to seal the win, prompting Indian players to rush onto the field in jubilation.
New Zealand, having posted 251/7 in their allotted 50 overs, put up a brave fight despite setting a relatively modest total. Their bowlers kept the pressure on throughout India’s chase, but the strong and determined Indian batting lineup held firm.
Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role, anchoring the innings with a composed 76 off 83 balls, which included seven fours and three sixes. Fellow opener Shubman Gill contributed 31 runs, while Shreyas Iyer continued his fine form, scoring 48 off 62 balls with two fours and two sixes. Axar Patel (29), KL Rahul (34*), and Ravindra Jadeja (9*) all played crucial hands in guiding India to the title.
New Zealand’s bowling attack, led by Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell, who took two wickets each, and Kyle Jamieson and Rachin Ravindra, who claimed one wicket each, couldn’t prevent India from chasing down the target.
