Virat Kohli Backs Rajat Patidar as RCB’s New Captain Ahead of IPL 2025
Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has extended his full support to Rajat Patidar, the newly appointed captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Kohli, who captained the franchise for over a decade, expressed his confidence that Patidar has all the qualities necessary to lead the team to success.
Patidar takes over the leadership role from Faf du Plessis, who has moved to Delhi Capitals for the 2025 season. Kohli, who remains the face of RCB, spoke highly of the young batter during the team’s Unbox event on Monday, reassuring fans about the future leadership of the franchise.
“This guy is going to lead you for a long time. He is going to do a great job. He has got everything that is required (to succeed),” Kohli stated to the RCB fans, emphasizing his belief in Patidar’s leadership potential.

Reflecting on his long association with the franchise, Kohli said, “It feels amazing to be back. The excitement and happiness are like every other season. I have been here for 18 years and absolutely love RCB. We have an amazing squad this time around, with a lot of talent in the team. I am personally very excited about this season.”
This IPL will be Kohli’s first since retiring from T20 Internationals, marking a new chapter in his cricketing career. Meanwhile, Patidar, who has been a key player for RCB and has represented India, expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to lead the prestigious franchise.
“Legends like Virat bhai, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle have played for RCB. I grew up watching them. From the start, I have loved the franchise a lot. I am more happy that I got a new role to lead one of the biggest teams in T20 cricket,” Patidar shared, acknowledging the legacy of former greats and the honor of leading RCB.
