BHIM 3.0 Launched: New Features for Seamless Digital Payments
NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), launched the highly anticipated BHIM 3.0 app on Tuesday, marking the third major update since the app’s introduction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016.
BHIM 3.0 promises a smoother, more user-friendly experience, incorporating several new features designed to improve digital payment accessibility and ease of use across India.
One of the standout features of the new app is its support for over 15 Indian languages, making digital payments accessible to a broader demographic across the country. This is especially beneficial in regions where language barriers may have previously hindered the adoption of digital payments.
The app has also been optimized to function effectively even in areas with low or unstable internet connectivity, ensuring that users in remote locations can enjoy seamless transactions. This is a significant development for rural and underserved areas where reliable internet access may not always be available.
BHIM 3.0 introduces a suite of advanced money management tools aimed at simplifying financial tracking and budgeting. The new “split expenses” feature allows users to easily divide bills among friends or family, making payments for group activities like dining out, rent, or shopping more convenient.
Additionally, the app now includes a “Family Mode” feature, which enables users to manage household expenses by adding family members to the account. This feature allows users to monitor shared spending and assign specific payments to different individuals, streamlining financial management for families.
For users focused on budgeting and financial planning, the app has integrated a “spends analytics” dashboard. This feature automatically categorizes monthly transactions, helping users track their spending patterns and providing insights into their financial behavior without the need for third-party budgeting tools.
BHIM 3.0 also introduces an “Action Needed” task assistant, which notifies users about pending bill payments, encourages enabling UPI Lite for faster transactions, and alerts them when their “Lite Balance” is low—ensuring timely actions and reducing the chances of missed payments.
On the merchant side, BHIM 3.0 rolls out “BHIM Vega,” a new integrated in-app payment solution for businesses. This allows merchants to accept payments directly within the app, eliminating the need for customers to switch between different payment platforms and creating a more efficient, unified payment experience.
The rollout of BHIM 3.0 will occur in phases, with full availability expected by April 2025. With its user-friendly interface, enhanced features, and improved accessibility, BHIM 3.0 is poised to enhance digital payment experiences for individuals and businesses alike, further strengthening India’s digital financial ecosystem.
