Maharashtra to Launch Online Property Registration Under ‘One State One Registration’ from May 1
In a significant step towards easing the process of doing business, the Maharashtra government is set to launch the “One State One Registration” initiative on May 1. The reform, announced by State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, will allow property buyers and sellers to complete their property registrations online, without the need to visit sub-registrar offices.
Minister Bawankule outlined that this initiative would help reduce the hassle of visiting government offices, especially during property transactions, which often involve interference from brokers. He highlighted that the new online system would allow people to register properties from any district in the state, making the entire process more accessible and transparent.
“This initiative will make property registration a faceless, online process. From May 1, anyone can register a property transaction from anywhere in Maharashtra,” Bawankule said, adding that a person in Pune could register a property in Nagpur or vice versa. The registration process will require an Aadhaar card and income tax documents, enabling users to complete transactions remotely.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier introduced a 100-day programme aimed at promoting dynamic governance, and this initiative aligns with that vision. The pilot version of the scheme was recently tested in Mumbai, and it will be expanded statewide starting May 1.
With 519 sub-registrar offices across Maharashtra, the new system is expected to reduce foot traffic at these offices, leading to reduced congestion, shorter processing times, and more efficient service. Additionally, the reform is anticipated to boost revenue collection through stamp duties and registration fees, a significant source of income for the state government.
The Maharashtra government collected over Rs 50,000 crore from stamp duty and registration fees in 2024-2025, and it aims to increase this figure to Rs 60,000 crore in 2025-2026. The shift to online registration is part of the broader vision of creating a “Digital Maharashtra” in line with the national “Digital India” campaign.
