Sonia Gandhi Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Calls for National Unity Against Violence

Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), Sonia Gandhi, strongly condemned the horrific terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the entire nation stands united against such acts of violence.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the senior Congress leader expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, describing the incident as “dastardly” and “an act of cowardice.”

“The entire country stands united against terror. We share a deep resolve to defeat these divisive and violent forces. We need to work to build the broad social consensus against terror that existed in the past,” she said.

Sonia Gandhi further extended her heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the attack. “Resorting to violence is an act of cowardice and needs to be condemned in no uncertain terms,” she emphasized.

She also stressed the urgent need for restoring peace and ensuring the safety of citizens in the region. “It is imperative that the safety of the citizens is ensured and peace is restored in the region,” she added.

The terror attack took place on Tuesday afternoon when unidentified assailants, reportedly dressed in army fatigues, opened fire on a group of horse-riding tourists in the Baisaran area, about 3 to 4 kilometers from Pahalgam market. The picturesque meadow, which is accessible only by foot or horseback, quickly turned into a scene of chaos as gunshots rang out.

According to initial reports, several tourists were killed, and many others, including locals, were injured in the ambush. Security forces have since launched a large-scale manhunt in the area to track down the perpetrators.

The attack has sparked widespread outrage and grief across the country, with leaders from across the political spectrum calling for unity in the face of terror and demanding stronger measures to ensure public safety in conflict-prone areas.
