Gautam Gambhir Files Police Complaint After Receiving Death Threats Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
Gautam Gambhir, former India cricketer, current head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, and ex-MP from East Delhi, has filed a police complaint after receiving death threats via email. The incident comes just a day after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed at least 26 lives and left several others injured.
In a formal email addressed to the Station House Officer of Rajender Nagar and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Gambhir’s personal secretary requested immediate action. “Kindly register the FIR accordingly and ensure the safety and security of the family,” the note read, accompanied by a copy of the threatening emails.
Gambhir, who has been vocal about national security issues, expressed his outrage and solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam attack on social media. “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike,” he wrote on platform X.
The Pakistan-based terrorist group, The Resistance Front (TRF)—an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba—has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam assault, which has been described as one of the deadliest attacks in the Kashmir Valley in recent years.
This is not the first time Gambhir has faced such threats. In 2021, he also received similar warnings, prompting the Delhi Police to bolster security around his Rajendra Nagar residence.
A celebrated cricketer, Gambhir represented India for over 15 years before retiring in 2018. He transitioned into politics shortly afterward, winning the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat in 2019 on a BJP ticket. However, ahead of the 2024 general elections, Gambhir stepped away from politics to refocus on his cricketing commitments.
“I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind,” he had posted on X earlier this year.
The Delhi Police are currently investigating the source of the threat emails, and further details are awaited as the situation develops.
