IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians Dominate Rajasthan Royals with 100-Run Victory to Top Points Table

The Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a massive 100 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday, registering their sixth consecutive win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season and moving to the top of the points table.

Led by powerful half-centuries from Ryan Rickleton (61 off 34) and Rohit Sharma (53 off 35), followed by explosive unbeaten 48s from Suryakumar Yadav and captain Hardik Pandya, MI posted a formidable 217/2—their highest team total of the season. Their bowlers followed up with clinical precision, dismissing a faltering Rajasthan side for 117 in 16.1 overs, handing MI their first win in Jaipur since 2012.

Batting Brilliance Sets the Tone

After surviving a brief early scare with Rohit Sharma overturning an LBW decision via DRS, MI’s openers put on a dazzling 116-run partnership—their first century stand of the season. Rickleton’s 29-ball fifty showcased both power and placement, while Rohit, who reached 6,000 IPL runs for MI during the innings, peppered the field with well-timed strokes.

Despite losing both openers in successive overs, MI’s momentum never slowed. Suryakumar and Pandya’s unbeaten 94-run stand off just 44 balls powered MI to an imposing total. Their finishing burst yielded 71 runs in the last five overs, featuring an array of sweeps, upper cuts, and straight drives that left the RR bowlers scrambling.

Rajasthan Collapse Under Pressure

RR’s response began on the back foot. Young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had hit a century in the previous match, fell for a duck. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah applied relentless pressure, combining pace, bounce, and movement to leave RR at 47/5 inside the powerplay.

While Yashasvi Jaiswal briefly fought back with two sixes, and Jofra Archer added a quick-fire 30, RR lacked partnerships and composure. MI’s attack was spearheaded by Karn Sharma (3/23) and Boult (3/28), with Pandya and Bumrah chipping in with key wickets. The disciplined bowling unit ensured RR never recovered, wrapping up the innings well short of the target.

Playoff Implications

The emphatic win lifted MI’s net run rate to 1.274, the highest among all teams. In stark contrast, RR’s heavy loss resulted in their elimination from IPL 2025, making them the second team to exit the tournament after Chennai Super Kings.
