In a major breakthrough following days of mounting military tensions, India and Pakistan have officially agreed to a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC), marking a crucial step towards de-escalation in the region. The announcement, made simultaneously by both governments, has been met with widespread international praise and calls for sustained peace.

The ceasefire, which comes after a series of cross-border strikes and heightened military alertness, is being hailed as a diplomatic victory. According to multiple reports, the United States played a key role in mediating the truce between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

US President Donald Trump welcomed the development, stating, “I am pleased to announce that after extensive overnight talks brokered by the United States, India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. Congratulations to both nations for choosing the path of peace and demonstrating true leadership.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, noting that the agreement creates space for dialogue. “It is encouraging to see both governments agree to a ceasefire and commit to further discussions on neutral ground. This is a positive turn for regional stability,” Rubio said.

Leaders from around the world joined in applauding the move. Acting Bangladeshi Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus commended both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating, “This decision reflects wisdom and a commitment to regional harmony. Bangladesh stands with both our neighbours in their pursuit of peaceful resolutions through diplomacy.”

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s Chief of Foreign Affairs, called the ceasefire “an important step toward de-escalation,” emphasizing the need for ongoing efforts to maintain the agreement. “The EU remains steadfast in its support for peace, security, and the fight against extremism in South Asia,” she added.

In the United Kingdom, Foreign Secretary David Lammy also welcomed the truce. “Today’s ceasefire is a significant and welcome development. I encourage both countries to continue this momentum. De-escalation is in everyone’s best interest,” he remarked.

Islamic spiritual leader Prince Rahim al-Husseini voiced his support as well, describing the agreement as “a hopeful moment.” He said, “I pray that the leaders of India and Pakistan find lasting solutions to their long-standing differences through dialogue, not conflict.”

While the ceasefire offers a moment of respite, observers remain cautiously optimistic. Many see it as a rare opportunity to shift focus from military confrontation to peaceful diplomacy. For now, the world watches with hope as two of Asia’s most powerful nations take a step back from the brink—and potentially a step closer to lasting peace.
