The sacred Saraswati River Pushkaram is set to commence on Thursday at Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram Kshetra, located in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. This spiritual event will continue until May 26, drawing lakhs of devotees to the confluence where the Saraswati, Godavari, and Pranahita rivers meet, along with an inner channel revered in local traditions.
The Pushkaram begins with the entry of Jupiter (Guru) into Gemini, a celestial alignment considered highly auspicious in Hindu tradition. Although the Pushkara season officially begins at 10:35 PM on Wednesday, temple priests at Kaleshwaram have advised that ritual bathing (Pushkara Snanam) should commence from sunrise on Thursday.
Ceremonial Launch and Spiritual Highlights
The festivities will formally begin at 5:44 AM on Thursday with special pujas conducted by Sri Guru Madanananda Saraswati Peethadhipathi Madhavananda at Saraswati Ghat. A daily spiritual highlight will be the Saraswati Navratna Mala Aarti, held every evening from 6:45 PM to 7:35 PM, accompanied by a series of art and cultural programs celebrating India’s spiritual and artistic heritage.
Facilities and Government Support
To accommodate the expected 1.5 lakh visitors per day, a tent city has been set up with fee-based lodging options. The Telangana State Government has allocated ₹35 crore to ensure smooth organization of the event, including drinking water facilities, sanitation, ghat construction, road repairs, and parking arrangements. The RTC has deployed special buses from multiple districts to Kaleshwaram.
In view of environmental concerns, Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha has directed the Pollution Control Board to monitor and prevent water pollution throughout the event. The minister also unveiled the official Pushkaram poster in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
CM Revanth Reddy to Attend and Unveil Saraswati Statue
In a historic first, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his wife will attend the event on Thursday at 4:30 PM. The CM will participate in the Pushkara Snanam, offer prayers at the Srikaleshwara and Muktheeswara Swamy temples, and take part in a special aarti at Saraswati Ghat. A key highlight of his visit will be the unveiling of a 10-foot statue of Goddess Saraswati and the inauguration of a newly constructed 86-room accommodation complex for pilgrims.
This marks the first time a sitting Chief Minister is attending the Pushkarams at Kaleshwaram, making it a landmark moment in the state’s spiritual and administrative history.
