A new COVID-19 case has been confirmed in Visakhapatnam, sparking fresh caution among health officials and residents. A 23-year-old woman from the Maddilapalem area tested positive for the virus after being admitted to a private hospital with a persistent fever, health department sources revealed.
Doctors, suspecting a potential viral infection, conducted diagnostic tests that returned a positive result for COVID-19. To ensure accuracy, her sample was sent to the virology lab at King George Hospital (KGH), which reconfirmed the diagnosis.
State Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Veerapandian confirmed the case and assured that the patient’s condition remained stable. She was discharged on Thursday evening after showing signs of recovery. According to family members, the woman had not traveled recently, making this a case of local transmission.
In response, the state health department has alerted district authorities to strengthen surveillance and implement all precautionary measures to contain any potential spread.
The Department of Medical and Health issued updated public guidelines to prevent further infections:
- Self-isolate immediately if you experience symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or cold.
- Seek medical attention and follow prescriptions—self-medication is discouraged.
- Wear masks in public spaces, especially in crowded areas or while traveling.
- Get tested if returning from high-risk zones or if symptoms appear.
- Practice hand hygiene, using soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizers frequently.
Though this appears to be an isolated case, authorities are not taking any chances, emphasizing the importance of community responsibility in maintaining COVID-19 safety protocols.
