In a high-octane clash against Punjab Kings at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, SKY played a crucial knock of 57 runs, taking his season tally to an impressive 640 runs from 14 innings. With this feat, he outshone Tendulkar’s 2010 record of 618 runs — a mark that had stood for over a decade.
Yadav’s consistency has been nothing short of remarkable this season. His string of impactful scores — 29, 48, 27*, 67, 28, 40, 26, 68*, 40*, 54, 48*, 35, 73*, and 51* — highlights a dream run that has placed him third in the Orange Cap race, trailing only behind Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill.
With a jaw-dropping strike rate of 167.98 and an average of 71.11, Suryakumar has been a cornerstone of Mumbai Indians’ resurgence in the latter half of the tournament. He also holds the record for the most 25-plus scores in a single IPL edition — a testament to his remarkable consistency.
In a mid-innings chat, Yadav reflected on his performance:
“It was a bit challenging. The pitch was slightly sticky for the pacers, though manageable for spinners. I think we were 10-15 runs short considering how Hardik and Naman started. Pace-off deliveries could test the batters here. We’ve got a competitive total, but yes — I’ll only be happy if we bag the two points.” He also shared his go-to shots this season: “The sweep and that flick over square leg — definitely my favourites!”
