Punjab Kings delivered a clinical performance to outplay Mumbai Indians by seven wickets, chasing down a competitive total of 184 with nine balls to spare at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. A stellar 109-run stand between Josh Inglis (73) and Priyansh Arya (62) was the cornerstone of Punjab’s commanding run chase, marking a statement win as the playoff race tightens.

After winning the toss and choosing to field, Punjab absorbed early pressure before unleashing their top-order firepower. Inglis played the aggressor, smashing his way to a 29-ball fifty, while Arya displayed impressive maturity and flair, particularly with his back-foot drives and counter-attacking strokes. Their partnership took the game away from Mumbai despite brief resistance from the bowling unit.

While Mitchell Santner, who had starred in the previous encounter between the sides, tried to stem the flow with two wickets, the Punjab duo had already done the damage. Santner eventually removed Arya and later trapped Inglis LBW, but the match was firmly in Punjab’s grip by then. Shreyas Iyer applied the finishing touch with a six off Trent Boult to seal the win.

Yadav’s Lone Fight for Mumbai

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav once again proved to be Mumbai’s pillar, scoring a gritty 57 off 39 balls. While wickets fell around him, Yadav showcased a blend of innovation and composure, notching up his fifth half-century of the season. His knock, along with late cameos from Hardik Pandya (26) and Naman Dhir (20), lifted Mumbai to 184/7 in 20 overs.

Mumbai’s innings began with promise as Ryan Rickelton (27) came out firing, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Rohit Sharma struggled to find rhythm, and the middle order crumbled under pressure, losing Tilak Varma and Will Jacks in the same over to Vyshak Vijaykumar.

Despite a mini flourish in the death overs, Mumbai’s total looked slightly under par given the conditions, and the Punjab chase proved it right.

Bowling Highlights

For Punjab, the bowling effort was led by Marco Jansen (2/34) and Arshdeep Singh (2/28), who picked up key wickets and contained the scoring during crucial phases. Vyshak Vijaykumar also chipped in with two important breakthroughs.
