The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is all set to mark its 25th foundation day with grandeur and pride, hosting its silver jubilee celebrations in Dallas, Texas. The event, which also commemorates Telangana State Formation Day, will be held on Sunday at 4 PM at the Dr. Pepper Arena, now decked in the party’s signature pink theme.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) will preside as the chief guest at the celebration, symbolizing the party’s continued outreach to its global supporters. KTR, who recently concluded a two-day official visit to London, received a hero’s welcome upon his arrival in Dallas, with enthusiastic slogans of “Jai KTR” and “Jai Telangana” echoing through the airport terminal. He was greeted by party MLAs Gangula Kamalakar and Kaushik Reddy, alongside a vibrant contingent of BRS NRI leaders. From the airport, KTR was escorted to his residence under tight security in a special convoy.
Global Telangana Diaspora Unites in Dallas
Telangana supporters from across the United States have converged in Dallas to participate in the historic event. Attendees have arrived from cities including New Jersey, Delaware, Houston, Columbus, Austin, Florida, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Kentucky. Moreover, BRS NRI representatives from Canada, the Gulf countries, and the United Kingdom have confirmed their attendance.
Notably, Telugu diaspora groups such as TANA and ATA, as well as non-political Telugu community members, are also expected to join the celebrations, marking a rare show of unity across political and regional lines. Organizers have ensured that comprehensive arrangements are in place to accommodate the large crowd and provide a seamless experience for all attendees.
Echoes of a Movement: Rekindling Telangana’s Spirit Abroad
The atmosphere leading up to the event has reignited memories of the Telangana movement among the NRI community. Many supporters recall their active participation between 2001 and 2014, when they rallied behind KCR’s call for statehood, organizing protest events and awareness campaigns across American cities.
Historic protests during visits by then UPA leaders Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh are being remembered, especially the NRI demonstrations that coincided with the United Nations General Assembly sessions in New York.
Today, as the Telangana diaspora gathers once more, there is reflection not only on the state’s remarkable progress under the BRS government but also growing concern over what many describe as a regression under the current Congress rule. Among NRIs, there is a shared sentiment that the socio-political climate in Telangana is showing troubling signs reminiscent of the pre-statehood days. The Dallas celebrations aim to both honor Telangana’s journey and reinvigorate the global Telugu community’s engagement with the state’s future.
