A violent confrontation unfolded at the Nallabelli police station in Warangal district on Wednesday, involving around 50 relatives of a young woman who launched an attack on a couple seeking police protection, along with their supporters.
The couple, both residents of Arepalli village in Shayampet mandal, had recently married and taken refuge at the home of Samudrala Balaraju, a relative of the groom from Shanigaram village in Nallabelli mandal. Trouble began on Tuesday evening when approximately 20 of the girl’s relatives arrived in two vehicles and attacked Balaraju’s family while he was away. The attackers were eventually driven off by local villagers.
Seeking safety, the couple approached the Nallabelli police station and filed a complaint regarding the assault. However, the situation escalated dramatically when about 50 of the girl’s relatives surrounded the police station the following day and launched a violent assault on the couple, who were under police protection.
The attackers also targeted the family providing shelter to the couple, using flower pots displayed near the police station as weapons. Two police constables, Swarna and Venu, who attempted to intervene, were physically assaulted. Samudrala Swathi sustained serious injuries during the attack and was rushed to Narsampet Area Hospital by police ambulance for urgent medical treatment. Circle Inspector Sai Ramana promptly arrived at the scene and has initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited as the inquiry continues.
